Watch And Pray (Demo)

Jesus Praying in The Garden Of GethsemaneThis song is inspired by Jesus Christ in the Garden Of Gethsemane. Before His betrayal Jesus prayed in the garden with great anguish to the point of death. To His disciples, who didn’t understand what was to come, He said “Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak” (Matthew 26:41).

Here is an acoustic demo of the song with the chart and lyrics. I’ve also included the lyrics below with some bible references used in writing the song.

Watch-and-pray-lyrics (26.2 KiB)

Verse 1
Give us strength as we watch and pray
And prepare for the coming day
Let us be there when you call
Not in slumber shall we fall

Pre Chorus
The day of trial comes
We wait on you
This body’s weak
Your spirit’s strong

Father God
Who art in heaven
Hallowed be your name
We pray your will be done
Give us the strength to stay
Your grace unending
With you beside
We’ll watch and pray

Verse 2
Give us peace as we watch and pray
In your presence not astray
Let us take up our cross
Seeing victory in loss

Verse 3
Give us joy as we watch and pray
It’s our strength through every day
Your salvation we’re holding to
Holy Spirit guide us through

(Matthew 26:40, Matthew 6:9-13, Romans 3:23-26, Matthew 16:24, Psalm 28:7, 1 Thessalonians 5:8, John 16:13)

  1. Awesome acoustic release, loved it!
We can imagine it with drums / bass too, but it works great just acoustic, perhaps doesn’t need to get any bigger.

Backing vocals were a very nice touch too!

  2. That is such a beautiful song. I really like it. The music and the lyrics fit together like a glove. And I’ve listened to the song a few times and it’s very calming, it makes me when to sit and mediated on God’s Word.

  3. I can easily sit in God’s presence with this song. There’s such an anointing in it. Thank you and keep the songs coming!
